Hydrometric Program Lead

Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. (KWL) is currently seeking an experienced professional in our Burnaby office to direct the hydrometric group. The Project Lead will provide technical leadership to the group, monitor budgets, liaise with clients, grow the skill centre, plan work flow and supervise junior staff. 

What We’re Looking For

The right person…

You are a professional engineer, technologist or scientist with 5-10 years direct experience with hydrometric project work, including urban and remote field work, hydrometric and climate station installation, data and equipment trouble shooting, reporting and related project management.  You have a natural affinity for working with manual and power tools and a good understanding of electrical circuits.  You are analytical and you have a talent for data analysis and look forward to developing innovative data management tools.

You naturally take initiative to ensure projects unfold effectively and take pride in a job well done.  You are very organized and have vision when it comes to planning work flow.  You have experience in a project manager role and enjoy working with a variety of people at different levels of experience.  You are excited about the opportunity to contribute to the direction and growth of the hydrometric group and continuing to place KWL in an industry leadership role.  Experience in consulting engineering is an asset.  You are fluent in English both written and spoken, have superior communication skills, and work well under deadlines.

You will be responsible for hydrometric station planning, installation, operations and client liaison while relying on an experienced team to complete the work. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • keeping current with advances in hydrometric methodologies, practices and standards in industry, technology and training and set group policies accordingly and provide training to other KWL groups.
  • preparing cost estimates for equipment and employee time, preparing proposals and providing overall client liaison;
  • planning new hydrometric and climate station projects and site scoping;
  • providing support to other KWL groups with technical review of hydrology, advice for hydrometric projects and training;
  • preparing hydrometric reporting and hydrology assessments;
  • conducting hydrometric and climate station maintenance and flow measurements;
  • participating in the installation of urban and remote hydrometric and climate stations;
  • tracking trouble sites and working to reinstate them efficiently;
  • managing team workload, supervising and delegating to junior employees and co-op students; and
  • working with the Senior Manager to help expand KWL’s hydrometric business.

Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite is required.  You must have a class 5 B.C. Driver’s Licence and an excellent driving record. You should be comfortable driving in the Lower Mainland’s industrial, urban and rural areas. You must also be comfortable with physical activity and hiking with field equipment.
