Intermediate Mechanical Project Engineer

 

Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. is seeking an experienced intermediate mechanical project engineer with consulting engineering experience related to central heating and cooling district energy plant design, to work in our Burnaby office.

Typical project work would include:

  • planning and feasibility studies and development of business cases;
  • assessments of existing facilities for expansion and/or retrofit;
  • integration of building heating and cooling systems with utility-scale district energy systems;
  • planning and design of energy plants with various energy sources such as sewer heat recovery, geo-exchange, biomass, air source;
  • process, plant, piping and energy transfer station design and equipment selection including preparation of design basis, preliminary and detailed drawings and specifications; and
  • tendering and construction inspection and management.

What We’re Looking For

The right person...

You have experience with thermal mechanical systems to enable the planning of district energy plants that may be located in stand-alone buildings or that are part of land development or campus projects.  You have expertise in the planning, design, construction and project management of engineering projects involving; utility/facility energy efficiency (pumping, heat & energy recovery); district energy system planning; thermal energy modelling; combined heat and power; natural gas; biomass; biogas; geo-exchange and sewer heat recovery.  Your qualifications, interests and experience will include a combination of the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer eligible for registration with EGBC.
  • Minimum of 6 years of work-related experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills (both oral and written) and presentation skills.
  • Leadership skills and a proven ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion.
  • Experience in writing winning proposals and project management.
  • Experience in contract management, client liaison and business development.
  • Leadership experience in supervising junior staff.

Experience in the following areas are valuable: specification of equipment such as heat pumps, heat exchangers, boilers, ancillary equipment required for large heating and cooling plants, design of instrumentation and controls for the monitoring and optimization of energy systems; cooling and heating load profile analysis.
