Boiled Frog Syndrome: Environmental Indicators – Are Communities Prepared?
2017 BCWWA Conference

KWL's Don Nash made a presentation on indicators of climate change and environmental collapse at the 2017 BCWWA  conference in Victoria, BC.

Abstract

David Suzuki in his book “It’s a Matter of Survival” refers to the boiled frog syndrome as a metaphor for the human condition in our changing environment.  If the frog’s environment is heated slowly enough, the frog will not recognize the severity of the change and choose to stay in that environment until it dies.  This presentation seeks to help raise awareness by exploring the indicators for climate change acceleration and environmental collapse as well as the potential drivers for these changes.  The presentation concludes with what communities can do to prepare for what could be an abrupt climate shift.
