How will the new Federal Flood Fund be rolled out? National Floodplain Mapping Technical Working Group - A CWRA Update
2016 BC Water and Waste Association (BCWWA) Conference

CWRA President, Dave Murray made a presentation at the BCWWA conference in Whistler, BC.

Canada's National Disaster Mitigation Strategy includes a new program to initially spend about $200M on identifying, mapping hazards, assessing risks and mitigating flood hazards across Canada. The Canadian Water Resources Association (CWRA) is a national organization representing over 1000 water resources specialists across Canada in the public and private sectors. CWRA is part of the National Technical Working Group and is engaged on the roll out of this program. Several sub groups are developing national guidelines for floodplain mapping and assessing risk that includes hydrology and hydraulics, climate change, risk assessment and floodplain mapping. This presentation will touch on the important steps of assessing flood risks, the need for an integrated approach to flood hazard management. Dave Murray, CWRA's National President will report on the status of the working group, the timeline of the guidelines and how municipalities can tap into this new flood mitigation fund.
