Leaks, Breaks, Disasters and Near Misses: Stress Assessment for Pipes and Engineers
2016 BC Water and Waste Association (BCWWA) Conference

KWL's Colin Kristiansen made a presentation at the BCWWA conference in Whistler, BC.

Abstract

Understanding pipe failures is key to design and management of utility infrastructure.  Infrastructure is designed to fail, with allowance for variability and unknowns. Experience with actual failures and near misses helps to understand what to anticipate and plan for. The author will present a recent history of a number of leaks, breaks, and near misses around the Lower Mainland. This will include post-event technical assessments and opinions for staying out of trouble. This will also cover some of the technical tools and resources available to provide such assessments.
