Senior Biologist

What You’ll Do

  • Plan, lead, and manage freshwater aquatic, terrestrial, and/or marine baseline studies;
  • Act as the lead environmental professional for major planning or feasibility studies in the areas of water and community infrastructure, watershed management, climate change adaptation, and ecological restoration;
  • Lead environmental impact assessments, permitting, and approval processes for small and medium-sized water, and community infrastructure projects;
  • Lead the development of habitat mitigation, offsetting, and compensation plans, as well as associated monitoring programs and plans;
  • Participate in the design and construction of aquatic and terrestrial habitat enhancement projects;
  • Lead the preparation of construction-phase environmental management plans and environmental compliance monitoring programs for construction projects;
  • Prepare technical reports, memos, and other project deliverables;
  • Prepare proposals, including the development of work programs, budgets, and schedules; and
  • Act as a senior technical reviewer for projects within one or more skill centres within the company;
  • Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate biologists on the Environment team;
  • Foster and build relationships with existing and potential clients, including Indigenous communities, municipalities, regional districts, and private companies.

What You’ll Bring

  • A positive and motivated personality!
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources Management or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of post-graduation work experience, preferably some in consulting
  • Registered or eligible for registration as an R.P Bio with the College of Applied Biology in BC (other professional designations, e.g. P.Ag., EP, may be considered)
  • Experience working in aquatic and/or terrestrial ecosystems of BC and Western Canada
  • Solid understanding of current federal and provincial regulatory processes, including awareness of upcoming policy changes and emerging issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written) and be able to work with team members in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • A desire to learn new skills and an eagerness to grow within your role
  • An understanding of the UN Declaration on the Rights for Indigenous Peoples and how that relates to our responsibilities to advance reconciliation
  • A valid driver’s license (in good standing) is mandatory
  • Must be physically able to conduct field visits commensurate with project work. This may include handling and operation of equipment, travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, and outdoor site visits in all weather conditions on uneven/varying ground terrain.

Wage Range

$110,000 – $120,000, wage dependent on years of experience
