Canada Line Sewer Realignment

Project Highlights
Kerr Wood Leidal was retained by SNC-Lavalin Inc. to complete the design of the Metro Vancouver combined trunk sewer relocations required to make way for the Canada Line rapid transit cut and cover tunnel on Cambie Street in Vancouver.
The work included detailed design of approximately 660 metres of 1,350 mm diameter through 1,830 mm diameter reinforced concrete pipelines, stretching along and across Cambie Street from 6th Avenue to 14th Avenue.
Project Challenges
The project’s challenges included scheduling around tunneling work, developing a feasible design alignment and grade through existing utilities, and rapidly developing custom details to adapt to field conditions. KWL worked with SNC-Lavalin and the contractor (Tyam Construction) to facilitate the works to Metro Vancouver’s design standards.
