Project Highlights

KWL completed a Solar Feasibility Assessment for Xwísten First Nation (Bridge River Band), a community near Lillooet, British Columbia, to evaluate opportunities for renewable energy development and to support informed community decision-making. The study examined the technical, financial, and cultural feasibility of pathways to improve community energy resilience and sustainability.

The project included GIS-based mapping, field investigations, community engagement, solar resource assessments, conceptual design development, and financial analysis. Six candidate sites were evaluated based on terrain, solar exposure, environmental and cultural considerations, land-use compatibility, and proximity to existing BC Hydro infrastructure. Through collaboration with community leadership and members, a site was identified as the preferred location due to its favorable topography, minimal shading, and access to nearby electrical infrastructure.

KWL developed conceptual solar farm options at capacities of 2, 8, and 32 MW and assessed infrastructure requirements, energy production potential, capital costs and operating costs. The report recommends pursuing building-mounted solar and battery storage systems for community facilities, maintaining the preferred site as a development-ready location for future opportunities, and exploring grant funding to improve project economics.
