BC Ferry Services Inc. Terminal Sewage Treatment Plants

Project Highlights

BC Ferries operates four sewage treatment plants to service ferry terminal facilities on Saturna, Galiano, and Salt Spring Islands and in Gibsons, BC.  KWL provided monthly monitoring services to these plants including visual inspection, testing, equipment adjustment, effluent sampling, reporting and advising on the continued safe and environmentally permitted operation of these plants.

In addition to the monitoring and troubleshooting contracts, KWL also provided upgrading designs to the Swartz Bay, Lyall Harbour and Langdale Harbour terminal sewage treatment plants; performed plant audits for the Lyall Harbour and Studies Bay plants; and performed a treatment system assessment for a few of BC Ferries’ on-board sewage treatment systems.

KWL’s services ensured stable and reliable performance of these plants, in compliance with the effluent discharge requirements.
