Project Highlights

KWL was retained by BC Hydro to provide detailed design, surveying and construction oversight services for site drainage upgrades to multiple BC Hydro field office and maintenance yard facilities throughout British Columbia.  The goal was to improve site drainage and capture, and treat and contain potential fuel leakage from equipment stored on the facilities.

KWL assessed the drainage at 15 BC Hydro regional work yard facilities and provided detailed designs and construction oversight for the following:

  • Site regrading and repaving
  • Trench drains and swales
  • Oil water interceptors
  • Water retention ponds, and
  • Rock pits.

The stormwater system designs were based on hydrological conditions and applicable municipal design criteria.  Separators were designed following the standards of municipal, provincial and federal regulations and guidelines, and on API design guidelines.

The upgrades provide significant improvements to site drainage conditions, while also providing systems to effectively contain spills and releases of fuel from equipment.
