KWL’s Mike Currie Wins ACEC-BC Meritorious Achievement Award 2023

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies – Canada (ACEC) is a not-for-profit organization that has been the voice of Canadian consulting engineering companies since 1925.  ACEC operates through 10 provincial and 2 territorial member organizations, independent not-for-profits that advocate for the industry and its member firms.

Mike Currie, a distinguished water resources engineer with over 40 years of experience, has been awarded the ACEC-BC Meritorious Achievement Award 2023 for his outstanding contributions to the consulting engineering profession, industry, and community.  He has been a valued member of Kerr Wood Leidal since 1989, where he has demonstrated excellence in engineering, leadership, and service to the industry.  In addition, Mike has served many leadership positions in the company, including 10 years as president.

His contributions to the British Columbia and Canadian industry include serving as a leader or participant in professional organizations, including ACEC, Canadian Water Resources Association and Engineers and Geoscientists BC.  In addition, his expertise has been shared through industry guidance documents, conferences, seminars, and guest speaking engagements.

With a focus on water resources planning, design, construction, and advisory work, Mike has assisted many clients, including local, regional, and provincial governments, First Nations, industry, and developers.  He is exceptionally skilled in flood and debris flow emergency response and recovery, river engineering, floodplain management, and flood-related geohazards mitigation.

Mike’s project work has earned three ACEC Awards of Merit, including for the Fitzsimmons Creek Debris Barrier, Whistler Creek Management, and Daylighting Thain Creek.  In addition, his contributions have been previously recognized with notable individual awards, such as the CWRA Meritorious Service Award, the Engineers Canada Meritorious Service Award for Professional Service, the EGBC DC Lambert Professional Service Award, and the Engineers Canada Certificate of Fellowship.
